What Is Dental Implants Treatment in Singapore?

A relatively new field in Dentistry but one that has reopened a new vista for those who had lost all or some of their teeth when they were younger. Today with implants we have the ability to return lost function and aesthetics because of tooth loss. We can even replace teeth immediately should the situation arise.

Dental Implantology or Dental Implants as the name implies is a procedure where we place a Titanium dental implant into the jaw bone where teeth previously once were. This involves some form of surgery done under local anesthetic or intra-venous sedation. In most cases we will allow the implants to completely heal and "integrate" with your tissues (bone and gums) before proceeding to the next stage which is to begin rebuilding the lost tooth structure that does the chewing for you which might be up to 2-3 months. Occasionally depending on the needs and merits of the case we can do the complete reconstruction immediately.

Many patients have asked "Is the surgery painful?". Well, to be honest, all surgery whether minor or major will have a little bit of discomfort here and there. However, with proper anesthetic given, the patient should not feel pain during the surgery itself. It is pretty common to experience a slight discomfort after the surgery has ceased. However, it is not cause to be alarm.

Once fully integrated most implants should outlast natural dentition as we are discovering more all the time as we review cases that date back to the early days of Inplants which is around 25-30 years ago.

The next phase of rebuilding is called the prosthetic stage and involves taking numerous specialized impressions for the laboratory stages where we reconstruct the teeth out of dental alloys and ceramics to mimic the likeness and function of real teeth. Of course one's real teeth are the best but in the cases where they are lost, this would be the next best thing.

Implants are not for everyone so if you should feel the need for them please make an appointment for a consultation to ascertain the suitability of one's dental condition. In many cases the placement of dental implants are prevented because of ill health or concomitant medication like steroids or blood thinners. It is best if one explores the possibility of implants before many of the old age medical problems develop that would prevent us from placing implants for you. If you're looking for a dental clinic in Singapore, do find 1 that you're comfortable with.
