Teeth do tend to stain or discolour with age, particularly if you are a smoker or drink a lot of black coffee. This can be particularly noticeable if you have crowns or white fillings that do not discolour in the same way as natural teeth. Tooth whitening (sometimes referred to as bleaching) can help restore your smile. However, did you know that only trained dental professionals can whiten teeth. Bleaching agents, bought over the internet or applied by people without appropriate dental knowledge, can cause irrepairable damage to your teeth and gums.
All our treatment is aimed at giving you a healthy mouth and beautiful smile. Your smile is one of your best assets. It gives you confidence in making first impressions and helps you feel your best so you can really enjoy special occasions. We can give you the smile you deserve with a full range of treatments including: white fillings, tooth whitening, veneers, orthodontics, implants and natural-looking dentures. White fillings are preferred by many people because they don't show when you smile and also because of worries about the mercury content of silver (amalgam) fillings.
We do all we can to help you avoid the need for fillings, including our free PPP oral health advice sessions. However, sometimes fillings are necessary. Modern white filling materials are now very good and can be used for all areas of the mouth. They take a little longer to place than the traditional silver filling but can be made to look just like the real tooth, giving you a beautiful smile again. Amalgam (used for silver fillings) is a very strong and effective material and can give better performance in some circumstances.
If you have toothache or any other dental problem, give us a call. We aim to see all patients in pain the same day or at least within 24 hours - please contact us as early as possible for an appointment. Please see "Opening Times" for our working hours. There is no call-out charge for emergency appointments during the published opening times, including the scheduled Saturday Emergency Clinics and our standard prices apply to both normal weekday opening hours and the Emergency Clinic on Saturdays.
We can advise you and provide the ideal denture for your needs. Our dentures are made on-site by our own skilled technician to ensure we achieve the best possible appearance, fit and comfort for you. If you have problems with your dentures why not come along and talk to us. Denture retention can be particular problem for patients who have had dentures for a long time. We can also repair broken dentures - even if we did not supply them in the first place. If you drop your dentures in before 10 o'clock in the morning we will usually be able to return them to you by 5 o'clock the same day.
Routine hygienist appointments help keep your teeth clean and fresh for a bright and confident smile. We offer a range of treatments from scale and polish through to full periodontal treatment. Periodontal (or gum) disease is very common, affecting a large percentage of the population. Although it is generally unrecognised by the patient, indications include bleeding gums during brushing, bad breath and in later stages mobility of the teeth. Gum disease is caused by the build-up of bacteria on the teeth, if these are left for any length of time the plaque becomes harder and can't be removed by brushing alone.
At Combe Road we recognise that many people are nervous of visiting the dentist and having any form of treatment done. Our dentists are very sympathetic of this problem and are trained in several different techniques to help you to feel more comfortable during your visit. Relative Analgesia is suitable for patients of any age, even if they are on medication, and is commonly used in ambulances and during childbirth to reduce pain and anxiety. The Nitrous Oxide gas is administered through a mask, which is comfortable to wear, and produces a pleasant, relaxed feeling.
Dental implants provide an alternative to a denture or fixed bridge and can also be used to anchor dentures. We have been fitting patients with implants at Combe Road Dental since 2004 and have achieved a high degree of success and patient satisfaction. Our implant patients range in age from their early 20's right up to the mid-80's. In a recent survey of more than 40 of our previous implant patients, nearly all said that they would seriously consider returning to us for further implants - and some have already done so.
